Those assistants generally charge the bigger bucks. Then there are those who are recent grads, changing careers, or just want to make some money on the side. These people may charge less just to get their feet in the door.
Type of Service : Are you asking for executive assistant-type tasks such as calendar management, data entry, and flight booking? Or are you asking for copywriting, video production, and email marketing services?
Deadlines : Is the project a rush job or are you providing a realistic deadline? After all, they have to drop everything to make that possible for you. Start here. Share on Facebook Facebook. You can back this up with testimonials and case studies. While a small amount is understandable, it can easily add up. For instance:. So again, while how you manage your clients is up to you, please be aware that time is money… your money. While you will probably use a combination of pricing methods the most important thing is to be clear about how much you charge and to be confident with your pricing decisions.
My pricing course shows you how to break through the hourly rate trap by charging project and package rates. I also explain the psychology of pricing and introduce you to pricing tricks you may not even be aware of. Please could I ask you how the retainer calculation works?
For example, if I am booked to work say 8hrs every Tuesday, how would you navigate those months with a fifth Tuesday? Does a retainer call for a certain amount of give and take in such a situation, or do you work on a timesheet basis, accounting for each hour spent working for that client? Thanks in advance! You use a time tracker such as Toggl and can also send a copy to the client if they would like you to do so.
Hi there, as a VA for a year now — yay! I am braving the storm of asking for retainers from my clients, for all the reasons above. Can I ask do they need a contract for this, or would an email outlining the terms be suitable? Months notice of termination etc as normal? I also have to admit that none of my clients have contracts from me but I have contracts via their companies?? I need to sort this I know! It marks you out as being a professional business owner and protects you from being sued or screwed.
It was written specifically for VAs by an international contracts lawyer and is updated and resent to buyers free of charge any time the law changes. Thank you Joanne so very much for this wonderful well-written article! I appreciate your kind human approach. Hi Joanne, I was wondering if all 3 days can be used in the way rates can be set?
Please help me! They can indeed. You just pick the rate appropriate for the task. So you could have one client on an hourly rate then move them over to a retainer, you could have another client who you charge a one-off fee for doing specific tasks and you could have a few other clients on retainers and then by the hour if they occasionally go over their hours.
You could even have a client who is hourly or a retainer then you quote a one-off project fee for setting up a newsletter etc. Moving away from an hourly rate is the goal. What a fantastic website you have! Well done! They are quick to learn anything related to internet and one is studying marketing and is good with video, webpages, audio. The other is learning the ropes and will in the future become a health coach. Do you offer any courses that teach the actual VA skill sets not necessarily how to be in your own business and attract clients since they already have a client — me — since they both will move onto their own coaching businesses in the future?
Thank you! Hi there and thank you very much for your comment. How lucky you are to have two children who are so eager to learn and get on in life! How marvellous. Thank you again for reading and taking the time to comment. It sucks, but I guess you live and you learn! However, if you only want someone to upload social media posts, you can hire a virtual assistant with zero to one year of experience — you might even be their very first client and it should still be fine!
Ever wonder why so many companies hire virtual assistants from India and the Philippines? Virtual assistants from these countries charge far less than their counterparts from the US and Europe. If you want to know more about hiring virtual assistants from these countries, you can check out our articles on hiring a virtual assistant from India and the Philippines.
Most VAs prefer to be billed on an hourly basis and receive online payments for their services. However, some virtual assistants prefer working on a retainer and even accept checks and credit card payments. A VA payment structure determines the basis on which virtual assistants charge potential clients. PayPal is a leading payment platform used by corporates and startups to pay their virtual assistants.
Payoneer is a popular payment platform that simplifies the process of paying your virtual assistants across countries. Wise, formerly TransferWise is a global money transfer platform that charges low and transparent fees on all transactions. As most virtual assistants charge you on an hourly rate, you need to keep track of their work hours accurately.
Pinterest is huge right now and if you enjoy it, go for it! Abbey, Thank you for your informative video on setting rates! I especially like your advice to work for the people who value my services and are willing to pay the rate I want to get me! Heidi, You are very welcome! I am glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! Thank you so much. This is the best article I have read about pricing! It even game me ideas to reframe one of my services. May your prosper inevitably.
Thank you this was so helpful! How does one justify a raise with a current client? I started out with a dream client — who I am still working with after over 2 years yay! And I really need to increase my rates now — but do not want to lose my awesome client!
It is totally OK to raise your rates! With current clients, you just want to make sure you communicate with them in advance that there will be an increase in your rates. It is both enlightening and beneficial to read. It is an excellent post. As a virtual assistant, it necessitates setting a fixed hourly rate. It is a challenging task. However, your article made it seems to be a lot easier. I am a newbie in the VA industry, and this post helps me a lot.
This post is just what I needed to help with how to package the services as a VA. Although, I watched the premium package video several times on the virtual savvy site, I was not sure what to do. Thank you Ashley for providing the detailed examples and breaking everything down. Working as a virtual assistant necessitates setting a fixed hourly rate.
It is a difficult task. However, your essay made it appear to be a lot easier. It is necessary to calculate your taxes. You might start by charging a low cost and gradually increase your charge as the task rises.
