Barber was speaking out against quarterback Eli Manning during the season—the same year the team won the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots.
He criticized Manning's leadership, and it still bothered fans three years later when he was inducted. No wonder they didn't want any part of him when he wanted to return to the league. Although fans embrace him now, just a season ago everyone wanted Alex Smith out and David Carr in. The crowd wasn't so much divided on which former No. Well, Smith kept his composure and finished the game throwing for yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Still, the team fell and never got their serving of Carr as he would only appear in one game during the entire season. While McNabb would prove to be a great quarterback for the team for many years, he ultimately never brought the team a title, bringing much dismay to the franchise and his name with the team.
When Brett Favre returned to Lambeau Field as a member of the Minnesota Vikings in , it was a mystery as to how the fans would react. The team chose to move Favre to the New York Jets the previous year, but it was his decision to join one of their NFC North foes that caused such an eruption from the crowd. While Favre didn't get the warmest of receptions, the Vikings went on to win that day behind Favre's yards and four touchdown passes.
Over 90 years in the making, the Chicago Cubs looked poised to finally make the World Series. The bright lights and the opportunity to perform on a stage does not make these athletes any less human or any less worthy of respect. Again, boo, yell, and chant respectfully , but degrading acts will never be seen as an acceptable way to show your support for your team while humiliating another. I get it.
In Game 2 of the Washington Wizards - Philadelphia 76ers series, Russell Westbrook was exiting the court and appeared to be injured. Just before entering the tunnel, a fan dumped popcorn on him. A Sixers fan just showered Russell Westbrook with popcorn pic. In an attempt to add insult to injury, the Philly fan made a fool of himself.
His team was winning. The game was ending. A key player of the opposing team was exiting. The lesson learned from my evening as a Heat fan: When the home team is as bad as the Sixers were last season, trash talk is in short supply.
